Storing and transporting your gazebo
Dry the canopy before you pack it, fold the frame and fabric in the bag it came with, and store the gazebo off the floor in a dry place. Lift with a partner and load it flat and secured so it does not shift in transit.

Dry everything before packing
A damp canopy packed away will grow mould and mildew, which marks the fabric and weakens it. If you must pack in the wet, unpack it at home as soon as you can and let it dry fully. Wipe the frame and the feet too, especially if you traded on wet grass or after rain. A dry cloth is enough for most marks, and a mild soap and water solution lifts mud from the fabric. Let it dry before folding.
Pack it properly
- Fold the canopy along its seams in neat, even folds.
- Collapse the frame fully and keep it with the canopy in the bag it came with.
- Keep weights, pegs and fittings in a separate bag so they do not damage the fabric.
- Label the bag so you can find it quickly when you load up.
Lift safely
A gazebo frame and a set of weights can be heavy and awkward. HSE guidance on manual handling advises thinking about the load before you lift, keeping it close to your body and avoiding twisting. Use a trolley, share the lift with a partner and carry weights in smaller units.
Load the vehicle
Load heavy items first and low down, and lay the gazebo flat so it cannot roll or slide. Secure it with straps. Check how long the packed frame is against your vehicle, and make sure nothing blocks your view or sticks out where it should not. Check your vehicle insurance covers the work use. Keep the canopy bag on top of the heavy frame so it does not get crushed, and pack the weights last so they come out first at the pitch.
Store between events
Keep the gazebo off the floor and away from damp, in a dry shed, garage or storage unit. Do not stack heavy items on top of the frame. Check the frame, joints and canopy each time you unpack and repair or replace worn parts before the next event. Pack a small repair kit with spare fittings, tape and cable ties, so a minor fault does not stop you trading.
Keep a simple kit record
Note the date you bought each gazebo, any repairs and when the canopy was last cleaned. A short log helps you decide when to replace parts, and it is useful evidence if you ever need to make a claim or ask for a repair. Photos of the gazebo packed correctly help anyone who loads it for you.
Plan for a long break
If you stop trading for the winter, clean and dry the gazebo thoroughly and store it loosely folded. A quick check for damage then saves surprises in spring. Put a note on the bag saying when you last cleaned it and what needs fixing. Our guide to gazebo weights and wind safety explains what to check before the first event of the season.
Frequently asked questions
How do I stop my gazebo canopy going mouldy?
Dry it fully before you store it. If you pack it wet, unpack and dry it as soon as you get home.
How should I store a gazebo over winter?
Clean it, dry it and keep it off the floor in a dry place, loosely folded with the frame in its bag.
Can I fit a gazebo in a car?
Many folding frames pack down small enough for a car or estate. Check the packed length and weight before you buy.
How do I carry a heavy gazebo safely?
Use a trolley or share the lift, keep the load close to your body and avoid twisting.
